cars

The used car shopping ordeal is finally over.  After much research and driving back and forth, and having P. look at it twice and asking for a favor from a very loving uncle to give an honest opinion…..she is now the proud owner of a 1998 Acura.  It’s a little black 2 door coupe and she looks so cute in it.  It of course has a few issues, but the mechanics are good and Acuras last forever so I feel pretty good about it.

One of the great things about being over 29 is that you just don’t take as much crap from anybody.  Used car salesmen in particular.  It was great, we marched in with all our facts and figures gave him our price ($1000 under what they were asking) and when he said no, handed back the keys, said thank you very much and left.  An hour later they were on the phone talking to P and trying to reach me.  After it was all said and done, we only came up $200.

We picked it up last night and it was so cool to see her drive off in her new wheels.  Oh and by the way, she payed for the car herself.  Not a penny came from P or I.  We have good kids!

So much for the take a picture of your Thanksgiving table.  I failed miserably.  By the time I remembered the camera, all that was left was dirty dishes and soiled napkins.  That’s why I haven’t posted in so long, I was feeling guilty.  But now we move forward.

The car that M drives is starting to go.  We talked the ex into signing over the title and are now in the process of trying to find her a new used car.  What a project.  I have to say that this is one of those times where age and experience trumps.  I will not be bullied into making an offer before I’m ready.  I will not be nice and keep my mouth shut when I think the thing is overpriced and under-maintained.  Anyway, I think we found something that will suit.  It is a 1998 Acura CL with 119,000 and a clean CARFAX.  Hopefully P will go with M to take a look this afternoon and we can get the ball rolling.  The sooner this is behind me the better.  Car shopping takes a lot of time, time that is already in short supply during the holiday season.  There are a lot of other things I could be doing besides talking to used car salesmen.

O.K. so we’re not packing every day anymore.  I try to go to the mountain house at least 3 times a week.  Now it’s just the stuff that has accumulated that we don’t use.  Unfortunately, we can’t just leave it there.  Also the house needs a thorough cleaning.  Yuck!  P is working diligently to organize his dream garage.  He is so happy and I know that it will be really cool when he is done.  He has the El Camino up on the lift to get it out of the way and the sandrail parked underneath.  The motocycles are off to the left and the Ram and the 72 pickup are left to right after that.  Then there are a bunch of boxes to be unpacked and cabinets to be mounted.  I do believe that one day I will park my car in the garage.

Hello and welcome to my world.  I am the soon to be wife of a self confessed gear head.  At this very moment he owns a Dodge diesel pickup, a 1972 Chevy pickup that is in the midst of being restored, a work van, a plow truck (80 something beater truck), a sand rail, a Harley Davidson Bad Boy, a custom chopper (that he built himself), a car hauler and a motorcycle trailer.  Oh, I almost forgot a 1971 El Camino.  That would be like forgetting one of my kids.

I myself have a Tahoe and wish that it were something much smaller.  I have 2 kids from a previous marriage, J.D (a boy) is 21 and no longer lives with us and M.E. (a girl) who is 17 and starting her senior year in high school.  I also have a Westie, Duncan that I am crazy about and will probably appear frequently in my ramblings.
